CREATING IMPACT WITH TECHNOLOGY

We are living in a world filled with technology. From waking up to sleeping again, we are technology dependent. We have moved into an era where our coming generations are digital natives, they learn, think, communicate with tech. This dependency can go either way, it can be used in our favor or it could be detrimental if not controlled.

Over the years, technology has revolutionized our world and daily lives. Technology has created amazing tools and resources, putting useful information at our fingertips. Modern technology has paved the way for multi-functional devices like the smartwatch and the smartphone. Computers are increasingly faster, more portable, and higher-powered than ever before. With all of these revolutions, technology has also made our lives easier, faster, better, and more fun.

One recent example is of Apple Music, who in partnership with Warner Music has taken a step further by introducing a ‘saylist’, a special playlist available on Apple Music that is focused on helping young people with speech-sound disorders.

In our family gatherings, we all have laughed at that one kid who tries so hard to speak correctly but always ends up pronouncing one or two words wrong and for the moment it’s all fun & cute, but did you know they might be suffering from speech-sound disorder?

Children with speech sound disorder experience difficulty forming speech sounds, articulating individual sounds, being understood, modulating speech, and they may stutter or stammer. One out of every 12 children are diagnosed with this disorder. When a child is diagnosed with speech sound disorder, speech therapy is really helpful. Therapeutic strategies, which include repeating sounds such as “ch,” “s,” and “z”, can help children in learning how to create and differentiate between sounds.

According to a report published in BBC News, this project will use algorithms to identify songs that repeat sounds that are difficult for those with speech disorders to pronounce. And by using the algorithm, Apple Music analyzed the lyrics of the 70 million tracks in its catalog to choose those that repeated them more often. So far, 173 songs have been chosen to be used among all the playlists available.

Users will find 10 different playlists with songs that frequently repeat the following sounds: “ch,” “d,” “f,” “g,” “k,” “l,” “r,” “s,” “t,” and “z.” Although the playlists for now only have English-language songs, everyone can access them on Apple Music. One just has to search for “Saylists” and tap the Playlists option in the Music app.

This is just one example of how we can create a better world with the resources in our hands. There is no denying the fact that the future of technology will continue to revolutionize and digitalize our lives. With medicine- technology enabling robots and remote location surgeries, with e-commerce becoming mainstream, with freelancing enabling many to be financially independent, with cashless banking & with more & more technology taking over our lives. It’s up to us to create the impact that will affect lives for the better!
